Bayou Classic will be played at Independence Stadium in Shreveport in 2021
NEW ORLEANS —
The Bayou Classic will be moved to Shreveport in 2021.
Organizers announced the move on Monday during a news conference.
The 47th Annual Bayou Classic was postponed this year because of coronavirus concerns.
The game is normally held in New Orleans each year. The New Orleans Mercedes Benz Superdome is currently undergoing renovations.
The Bayou Classic team, along with the leadership of both Southern University and Grambling State University, announced that the game in 2021 will be played at Independence Stadium on Saturday, April 17, 2021.
The 48thAnnual Bayou Classic is scheduled to be held in New Orleans in November 2021 as traditionally done each year, according to Bayou Classic organizers.
“The Bayou Classic is a long-standing tradition that we are excited to have come to Shreveport. We are proud to be a part of ensuring the continuity of this game that spans decades,” said Shreveport Mayor Adrian D. Perkins. “Southern and Grambling both have a rich history that is woven through families across this state. Alumni and fans in North Louisiana will be thrilled to see the Jaguars and Tigers battle in Independence Stadium.”
The Bayou Classic is the annual extravaganza bringing the fans and alumni of Grambling State University and Southern University together for a celebration of football, family and the traditions surrounding Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
